a girl showing HEPA filter for air purifier

Stand alone air purifiers are becoming the best and most affordable solution to offices, schools, Government buildings and more because they can clean the air 5 times an hour or more as long as they are sized for the room they are in. The CDC announced in May of 2023 that 5 times an hour is what they recommend for clean air delivery rate

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. True HEPA H13 Filters capture 99.9% of airborne particles down to 0.1 microns.

That’s even smaller than the size of a COVID particle at 0.125 microns in size. Most other purifiers use HEPA H11 filters, which capture down to just 0.3 microns.

HEPA Air H13 filters can remove Radon and SARS-CoV-2 virus sized particles from indoor air and can reduce the concentration over time, therefore reducing viral aerosol exposure and help to limit the risk of aerosol transmission. Read More…

An HVAC guy doing his indoor air quality testing

HVAC systems start with the ventilation that brings fresh air into a building or home by taking in the cool air or heating that air, and blowing it into an indoor space.

Some systems may also include ventilation systems that direct air out of the house, humidifiers (or dehumidifiers) that adjust the air’s humidity, and air purifiers that filter out spores, bacteria, viruses, and other minuscule harmful particles.

Most HVAC units are controlled by a smart thermostat.

Each HVAC system varies depending on the heating and cooling needs of a home or building, where that home or building is located, its age, its existing ductwork, its heating and cooling needs, and other important factors. Regardless of what system you have, the cooling efficiency is always measured by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER).

Since energy efficiency is vital, you will want to shop for a unit with a high SEER rating of 20 or more, keeping in mind that the minimum rating is 13. To receive the U.S. government’s Energy Star certification, an air conditioner must have a SEER of at least 14.

Steve Fontaine, together with IAQ Solutions and Consulting Inc. specialists will review all of your HVAC needs within your environment and help you determine which unit is best for you. Read More…

A happy family after doing Radon Testing with Steve Fontaine

Radon is a natural, noble gas that exists sporadically in the atmosphere and is detrimental to a person’s health. It has no particular smell or color, and it is difficult to identify in the air. Breathing in radon increases the risk for lung diseases, including lung cancer. Not all air purifiers remove radon since it is an inert gas that is too small to be caught up in most of the airfilters of the purifier. It is imperative that the air purification system you use removes 99.9% of particles down to 0.1 Micron to aid with poisons, gasses, and compounds like radon.

IAQ Solutions and Consulting Inc. will bring in our specialists to test your home or business for Radon and other gasses and guide you through the appropriate unit for your needs. Read More…

As Recommended by Dr. John Kraemer

Director of Environmental Science Program / Professor / Director, Center for Environmental Analysis CEO, Institute for Environmental Health Assessment & Patient Centered Outcomes, at Southeast Missouri State University.

Dr. John Kraemer endorses Stephen Fontaine and his expertise in indoor air quality management and policy development. Dr. Kraemer conducts extensive testing on stand-alone air purifiers with HEPA-13 filters and found them highly effective in removing airborne pathogens and allergens in the classroom, in-home environments, and transportation-related situations.

He commends Fontaine for his thorough knowledge of stand-alone HEPA-13 filtered air purifiers and his development of reliable solutions to difficult IAQ challenges.  Dr. Kraemer appreciates and values the positive leadership of Fontaine’s work on improving air quality for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma. Kraemer’s endorsement and recommendation of Fontaine’s indoor air quality advice illustrates the level of understanding Fontaine has exhibited of the CDC and EPA guidance for indoor air quality programs in schools and other densely populated buildings.
